GEWR 2024 : Mummy + Me Women's Race (Finisher Medals Achieved)🏅🏅

The Great Eastern Women's Run (GEWR 2024) was held at Singapore Sports Hub (National Stadium) on 27 Oct 2024. It was an all-women's race with more than 12000 participants.

There are a few categories for the women's race : 21.5Km, 10Km, 5Km, 2Km Mummy+Me (5-12yo) and 100m Princess Dash.(3-6yo)

Initially, I planned to sign up for the 5km run as an individual, but since my daughter is really keen to join the event, we signed up for the 2KM Mummy + Me Category instead. The distance is much shorter but I think it's a good start for young children, especially when they are first timers.

This is the first time I'm running with my 9yo daughter (*Girl in pink cap) and I enjoy this sweet maternal bonding activity.💞

Let's Run..My Little Warrior!🏃‍♀️

We arrived at the stadium around 7:30 am. It was a lovely morning and a nice weather for outdoor activities. Minister Mr Edwin Tong flagged off the 2km race at 8am and here we go...

              Mandy's Vlog : GEWR 2024 - Mummy + Me Category

The road was closed for the event, it was pretty crowded but still a smooth flow and we moved in a steadily speed. Every runner is so excited and eager to reach the finishing line within the cut-off time to receive our medals.

Keep Going...Never Quit! 💪

At some point, my daughter was feeling a little tired and I told her... "S, it's normal to feel tired..just keep walking but don't quit. We are almost there!😎" Every child need some words of encouragement and motivation. We made it and finished the race in less than 30mins.Yay!✌️

Our Mummy + Me Finisher Medals! 🏅🏅

The 2km run is fairly easy and manageable for majority of the adults & older kids but the most challenging part is running and videoing at the same time,lol..but I have to capture and document these precious moments, it's all worth it! 🥰

The medal is super cute with Cinnamoroll on it. My daughter is over the moon with her first medal and I am really proud of my baby for completing the race. We took lots of photos together and I hope this medal will motivate my daughter to achieve her goals as she grows...

Relax, Recharge and Enjoy...

We got some energy boosters and refreshments after the race, there were fun activities at the stadium for everyone, my daughter was thrilled to see Cinnamoroll dancing on the stage. Awww...He is so kawaii that I want to cuddle!!! 😊

Mission Accomplished - Medals Received In 2024

My personal goal for this year is to achieve 3 medals by end of 2024 and I did it! I'm not much of an athlete nor a professional runner but I do enjoy sports!🏀 Every award/medal means a lot to me, it reminds me of the efforts, perseverance and determination to complete the race! Every participation feels different and very memorable experiences for me.

Running/doing sports is a great way to build stamina, physical health, willpower, inner strength and more...

I look forward to more sports/running events with my family & friends and to achieve more medals to my best abilities! 😎💪

Start Strong. Finish Great.

I'm pleased to be part of this fabulous event, it's amazing to meet so many incredible women, mummies, sisters, daughters coming together for this running event to empower wellness, fitness, and embracing an active, healthy lifestyle!

The Black Belt Journey 🥋

I've always love Taekwondo.

For ages, I'm amazed by the stunning kick patterns, self-defense techniques and the 5 Tenets of Taekwondo. However, I never had the chance to have a formal training when I was younger and my mom is worried that I'll be too masculine..lol😅

But anyways, allow me to share an official news on my blog today!😊

My 11yo son got his Taekwondo Black Belt (Ist Dan). Yeah, I am filled with joy & excitement and I would like to share my personal experience and thoughts on this Black Belt journey...

It's been a challenging but a rewarding process. Though there were some delays due to the pandemic restrictions earlier and a few failed gradings in the past, but my son pass his Black Belt grading on the first attempt. My family is overwhelmed by his performance and we are really proud of his accomplishment.

From Zero To Hero! (*White To Black Belt)

My son N, is very much a gentle and mellow kid. He isn't a huge fan of Martial Arts, Kung-Fu, Wu Shu that sort...In fact, he loves Science, Robotics and Music, but like many concerned parents, we are always worried that our kids might get bullied in school, so I encouraged him to learn Taekwondo as a form of self-protection and to boost his physical fitness. Quite frankly, I never expect him to get a Black Belt at this young age, but I'm grateful that he did and completed the course.

I still remember when he failed his grading at Green/Blue belt when he was about 8yo, it was emotional...I felt his sadness and disappointment. After all, no one likes to fail. At some point, we hesitated and even thought of giving up Taekwondo, especially when some of his friends started quitting at Green/Blue belt, but I told him NOT to give up! I want my children to be resilient with determination and perseverance, so I motivate him to continue the training...I believe in my son and I know he can do it!

As parents, it's important to show our full support and encouragement to our children and guide them to achieve their goals and dreams. Even if they take a little longer, we shouldn't just give up. A slow progress is still better than no progress!  I've been his biggest cheer leader in every Taekwondo gradings and I enjoyed these amazing experiences.

Life is full of challenges, setbacks and failure is part of life! It's OK to fail, but don't be afraid to try again. Sometimes, we have to push ourselves a little harder to discover our full potentials.

I've learnt many tough life lessons and with an assertive personality today, I don't give up easily and I stand firm with integrity.

Personally, I don't believe in quitting, unless there are valid reasons or special circumstances. When I started something new, a course, an assignment, a project or a goal etc..I will do my best to complete it with all my efforts.(but that's just me and my perspective.)

I'm glad my son took my advice and go all the way, he didn't quit even though every level gets tougher! Getting a Black Belt isn't easy for anyone, it takes a lot of hard work, practices and self-discipline to keep leveling up and earn the Black Belt.

Taekwondo improves agility, reflexes, and concentration. It boost stamina, confidence and built a stronger mentality. I notice many positive changes since my son started his Taekwondo journey. At times, we would practiced together on sparring, kicks, board-breaking with our training gears. It's our bonding and N will teach me some basic moves and self-defense maneuvers too. Well, I can do Chong-Ji and the turning side kicks. Pretty cool, right? 🤭

A Black Belt Is Born! :)

When I saw N wearing the Black Belt at the ceremony that day...Wow! it's beyond words can describe and deep emotions run through my mind. My little guy look so manly with his Black Belt around his waist. I feel safe and protected to have my personal "Body Guard" beside me.Lol..It's one of the greatest moments indeed and I'm really happy for him.🥰

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to his Masters / Trainers for the guidance, patience and hard work for the past few years.

The Black Belt journey has taught me some important life lessons. As long as you keep trying, be consistent and believe in yourself, you will get there! Nothing comes easy in life, without determination and willpower, there is no progression nor success. I firmly believe...The harder the battle, the sweetest the victory!

Keep Trying...Don't Let Yourself Down!

Perseverance is strength. When you set a new goal, stay committed with solidity and you will achieve a positive outcome.

We may not always be the fastest, the greatest or the most outstanding ones, but keep in mind that the tortoise won the race for its hard work and persistence.

In life, people may fail you, but Do NOT fail yourself! Success may take a while, but it's all worthwhile in the end! We made it when we refuse to quit and this remarkable journey has displayed the core values and the indomitable spirit of Taekwondo.😎

" A Black Belt Is A White Belt Who
Never Quits! "

Keep Training Hard...Taekwon! 👊

31 December 2019

Bye Bye 2019, Hello 2020! 🎉

Wow! I can't believe 2019 will be over soon and we are stepping into the next decade...So, how has your year been?

Every December is a time I do some self-reflection and write down my new year's resolution.

Well, 2019 has been a very busy and challenging year for me, however, there are many business opportunities, rewards for the hard work and incidents that help broaden my perspectives about life and I learn to be more appreciative of the people around me.

Despite the busy schedule this year, one of my biggest accomplishments for 2019 is forming a Ukulele Jamming/Interest Group that I named it, 'UkerManics'. I feel very honored to teach Ukulele at the RC and bringing music to our neighborhood.

As a founder and the leader of the group, I am very excited and look forward to the upcoming New Year's Day performance with my fellow members. I can't wait to perform on stage again and I hope the group would expand in the near future.

Today, I wrote down some things that I hope to achieve in 2020. Personally, I believe in planning ahead and setting goals every year because that helps me to stay focused and motivate myself to be better,

so here's the ultimate list...😊

Mandy New Year's Resolution for 2020 :

 1. Spend more time with my family & people I love
 2. Learn a new skill
 3. Do more sports
 4. More vacations
 5. Have more patience
 6. Less nagging. (LOL!😅)
 7. Sleep early / Get more beauty sleep
 8. Write new songs
 9. Do what I love
10. Live a happier & healthier life

Looking back at 2019, I realized that every mistake and setback in life is an experience and a lesson learned. Indeed, "Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You LEARN!

Whatever unhappiness that happened this year, let's learn to LET GO and move on. Let bygones be bygones... Life still goes on everyday being happy or sad, so don't carry unnecessary 'baggage' into the new year.

I hereby take this opportunity for a shout-out to thank my dear friends/buddies for being there for me...Thank you all for listening to my silly vents and woes! (You know who you are) I know you guys will be reading my blog anyway...

I hope 2020 will be a better year for all. Here's wishing everyone a wonderful new year filled with new hope, new joy, and new beginnings.

The kids are starting school in a few day's time so Mommy's gonna' be busy again...Till then, take care, all the best and cheers to a Happy 2020!
