Social media is a virtual community network that provides great source of information, latest news, trends, entertainments and more...It is a resourceful marketing tool to promote businesses/brands, awareness and connect the world! However, it can be a dangerous place when the contents you share may lead to some nasty situations.
Bloggers like myself, content creators, influencers and online business owners are active on social media, our contents are shared publicly for better engagement and exposure to our audience, that's the nature of the industry. Hence, it can be quite challenging if you are unsure what contents are safe and what might cause red flag.🚩
My 3 golden rules are, be mindful, respectful and tactful.
Here are my personal tips and advice on 10 Things Not To Post On Social Media.(*This is solely my personal thoughts and opinions.*)
1. Personal Data
I'm sure most people will not share their personal information but at times, you may overlook the finest details on some pictures that may reveal your home address, ID, car plate and mobile numbers, these information can fall into wrong hands, so remember to check carefully before you post anything online.
2. Family/Children Pictures
Call me a protective mom, (I admit I am, lol!😄) Ah yes..I'm kinda' discreet and I value privacy. For me, I do not share my family/children photos on my social media publicly for safety reasons. I love my 2 sweethearts and take lots of lovely photos/videos with them, but I prefer to share my private collections with family/relatives, closest friends and selective group chats in a private setting. Anyway, you don't need to share everything about your life and you don't have to post it to prove it! It's perfectly fine to stay low key if you wish. You never know who is spying, checking your profiles and saving your photos.
3. Sensitive Topics
Personally, I would avoid posting/blogging anything related to Religions, Races and Politicians on social media. These topics are highly sensitive that may trigger unnecessary tensions and provoking debates, so it's wise to stay away at all costs and don't get yourself into trouble! (Nuffsaid!)

4. Adults Contents (18+)
Every social media channels forbid nudity, violence and obscene contents. Indecent posts will be removed, flagged and banned for violating the community guidelines. Avoid sharing such contents that may go viral and could expose to minors.
5. Hateful & Offensive Comments
5. Hateful & Offensive Comments
Everyone has different ideas, perspectives and beliefs. I think it's important to respect everyone equally. Perhaps you might think it's just a joke or a harmless remark, but be mindful that not everyone feel the same.
Acknowledge everyone's emotions and treat people the way you like to be treated! We can always agree to disagree or settle the disputes in private but NEVER condone to cyber-bulling, trolling and keyboard warriors. No One Is Perfect! There is nothing cool about bullying, shaming, defamation and being passive aggressive. No one ever look good, making someone look bad!
6. Fake News
Everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure many of us are eager to share the latest news with our family and friends but before you hit the send/forward button, make sure the information are updated from reliable sources before you share it on public platforms. You don't want to cause false alarm and anxiety.
7. Personal Stories/Events
Do NOT share your break-up stories, family problems, relationships, financial or work issues etc. I hate to say this hunny...but the truth is, very few people actually care, some are just curious and the vast majority can't be bothered! Instead of seeking comfort and support, some may be judging, mocking and gossiping about you. Don't invite negativity and protect your energy!
Some things are best to stay private, behind closed doors. Do NOT Overshare! Your problems need real solutions NOT attention! Talk to a trusted friend instead and refrain from sharing too much personal narratives on social media. A private life is a happy life! 🙂
8. Sharing Without Consent
Some documents are strictly private and confidential regardless corporates or individual, it could be personal emails, invoices, legal contracts and proposals that should never be shared with a third party or anyone. In my opinion, this is basic courtesy and integrity. Even if you are not in contact with the person/company/organisations anymore, the documents should still remain Private & Confidential. If you like a private article or specific photos, request for permission to repost on your page/website. Be professional and respectful.
9. Spamming Links
Spams are annoying and hard-selling strategies can be quite turn-off for many. It may project desperation and a poor image. Don't keep tagging popular, big accounts to promote your business unless they are aware and there is a mutual agreement/collaboration to support your product campaigns and business ventures.

10. Moderate Postings
Limit selfies, lavishing lifestyle photos and don't over post your achievements. Some people might feel envious or intimidated... Unfortunately, not everyone will clap for your success! In my personal experience, your daily online activities may unintentionally 'attract' stalkers, haters and flooded DMs.(Always!) It is common for bigger accounts to get hacked, compromised or become victims of phishing. Network does breakdown and internet security systems can fail too. Be Warned!
Don't be overly stressed about getting likes, followers, fame and popularity. I totally understand being competitive but Remember, your REAL Social Life is more important than your Social Media.
Bonus Tips :
Keep your posts fun, positive, interesting and entertaining. Have some self-discipline on the contents you post and set the amount of time you spend online.
Social media addiction can affect greatly on mental health, self-esteem and daily routines. Remember to take a short break and detach from social media if you need to. Don't forget to enjoy some me-time, self-care and spend quality time with your family. Never let social media steal your time or take over your life!
Occasionally, you can do some social media detox, to keep a safe and healthy network.
Whatever you wish to post on social media, make sure you feel good and comfortable sharing the contents. Be authentic & creative!👍
Share constructive, useful contents to inspire, motivate and encourage others. The world has enough crisis and critics, we need more compassion, peace and justice! Be kind to one another..."Spread Love, NOT Hate!"
